Knievel quash rumours

Fans of Sydney rock outfit Knievel could be forgiven for thinking that the band had broken up due to their lack of visible activity in the last few years, but a spokesperson for the band this week announced "nothing could be further from the truth".

Not content to sit and wait for the world to come to them, Knievel have been quietly getting on with the job and showing others how it's done. They've been busy creating a myspace page, putting some old film clips up on youtube and answering a few emails from fans asking when they'll play again. Envious younger bands watching with interest have described the move as "shrewd" and "random".

The band's spokesperson also denies that the band has eschewed their fanbase in favour of highly paid corporate gigs to recover losses to their share portfolio in the wake of the global financial meltdown. (If any company executives would like to contact Knievel for their next AGM or company retreat, please see details below.)

So it is with a modest amount of fanfare that Knievel will next week return to the stages of Sydney. One band member has noted that the last time the band played, venues didn't seem to have stages (at least not at the Petersham Bowling Club).

Greetings from Knievel

Knievel dusted off their instruments for a show back in July 2006, supporting Death Cab for Cutie at Petersham Bowling Club in celebration of record label Architecture's 5th birthday.

Knievel's Wayne Connolly had a big year in his other role as an "uber producer", with releases from The Vines, Youth Group, Dallas Crane, Tim Steward, Jim Moginie, Josh Pyke, Halfway and The Fauves, including an ARIA award-winning number one single with Forever Young for Youth Group. Wayne was also nominated for two ARIAs – Best Engineer for The Vines and Best Producer for Youth Group.

Wayne and Tracy from Knievel now have their own studio space, Outboard Studios, which they are hoping to expand in 2007. (Fans may recall that in their early days, for reasons which probably only Wayne could explain, the band was obsessed with speedboats and outboard engines ...)

For the other Knievel members, Tracy continues to work as a writer and web editor and is also working on her own musical project, New Leaf. Drummer Nick Kennedy is playing with Todd Sparrow and Laura Imbruglia and Tim Kevin has been busy with his band La Huva, who played in England and France in 2006 and has also been playing with a host of other great artists and bands, including Jim Moginie, The Exiles, Youth Group and The Vines.

Knievel may yet pull their socks up and get another record out some time. It's a new year after all and anything could happen ...

Meanwhile, check out our myspace and drop us a line (or a friendly kick in the pants ...).
